At Schaefer Box & Pallet, we provide ISPM-15 compliant heat-treated pallets, crates, and export packaging solutions designed for manufacturers, distributors, and logistics companies shipping goods worldwide.
Our certified heat treatment process ensures that your wood packaging materials meet international phytosanitary regulations so your shipments clear customs quickly and without costly delays.

What is ISPM-15?
ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is a global regulation governing the treatment of wood packaging materials used in international trade. The standard was developed to prevent the spread of invasive pests and plant diseases through wooden shipping materials such as pallets, crates, and dunnage.
Under ISPM-15, solid wood packaging materials thicker than 6 mm must be treated before they can be used for international shipments. This includes:
-
Wooden pallets
-
Shipping crates
-
Wooden boxes
-
Dunnage
-
Bracing and blocking materials
These materials must be treated and marked with an approved certification stamp before they can be used for export shipments.
Without proper treatment and certification, shipments may be:
-
Delayed at customs
-
Rejected at port
-
Destroyed by agricultural authorities

What is
ISPM-15 Heat Treatment?
Heat treatment is the most common method used to make wood packaging materials compliant with ISPM-15 regulations.
During this process, the wood is heated in a controlled chamber until the core temperature reaches at least 56°C (132.8°F) for a minimum of 30 minutes. This heat exposure kills insects, larvae, and pathogens that may be present in untreated lumber.
Once the treatment is complete, the wood packaging is stamped with an IPPC certification mark indicating it meets international shipping requirements.
This stamp confirms that the pallet or crate has been properly treated and is approved for international transport.

Your Wood Packaging Must Be ISPM-15 Heat Treated
Products That Require ISPM-15 Heat Treatment
Many types of wood packaging materials require heat treatment when used in export shipments. Common examples include:
Export Pallets
Heat-treated pallets are widely used for transporting goods internationally. These pallets provide strong support for heavy loads while meeting global shipping regulations.
Shipping Crates
Custom wooden crates used for machinery, equipment, and industrial products must be heat treated before export.
Wooden Boxes
Heavy-duty wooden boxes used for transportation must also meet ISPM-15 compliance requirements.
Dunnage and Blocking
Loose lumber used to stabilize cargo inside shipping containers must also be treated and certified.
